Contract Opportunity
The Métis Nation of Greater Victoria (MNGV) is seeking a highly motivated individual to support our community in designing and managing select community programs, as well as seeking, securing, and managing funding to support additional programs for our community.
Location: This position can be performed from our community office, or from a home-based office, however the ability to attend meetings and events in-person in Victoria will be required.
Compensation: $25-30/hr based on experience and qualifications
Organization Summary
MNGV is recognized by The Métis Nation of British Columbia as the Chartered Community for the Capital Regional District and has over 1,200 registered community members. The purpose of Métis Nation of Greater Victoria is to do all things necessary to represent the interests of the Métis people in the Greater Victoria Area. This includes re-establishing and strengthening family and community ties, offering access to Métis teachings through cultural events and programming, providing a forum for expression of Métis consciousness in the Capital Region District, and promoting public and governmental awareness of the goals and aspirations of the Metis people.
Contract Summary
Reporting to the MNGV Board of Directors, the Program Manager will be responsible for the management and coordination of various programs and initiatives aimed at developing a strong and resilient Métis community and optimizing the impact and sustainability of programs to achieve MNGV’s purpose.
This is a new contract position with MNGV available until March 2023, with potential for extension. Guaranteed a minimum average of 15 hours per week until March 2022, with potential for increased hours.
Responsibilities
Program Management & Coordination:
● Develop, plan, and organize Métis initiatives and programs in consultation with, and under the direction of, the MNGV Board of Directors and/or program leads.
● Manage program expenses and budgets.
● Preparation of the appropriate reports as per grant criteria.
● Regularly prepare budgets updates and provide progress reports on programs and activities to the MNGV Board.
● Promote MNGV programs across MNGV community communication platforms in coordination with the MNGV Office Coordinator and MNGV Board.
● Coordinate volunteers as necessary.
● Develop and maintain processes and systems to keep records of program attendance.
● Actively monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of new and current programs.
Operational Capacity:
● Seek out, apply, and negotiate opportunities with various funders, foundations, and government (federal, provincial, municipal) grants and funding.
● Lead and support the development of grant proposals.
● Collaborate and consult with the MNGV Board regarding goals and objectives for new funding, priorities and needs. Regular check-ins will be established to help monitor alignment of projects, progress, deliverables, and timelines.
● Connect with grant-making organizations to solicit feedback and establish positive working relationships.
● Demonstrate and maintain respectful, ethical, and professional behaviour.
● Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
● Knowledge, awareness and understanding of Métis lived experience.
● Strong interest in continuing to learn and practice Métis culture and the Michif language.
● Ability to work collaboratively in a changing environment focussed on achieving the highest standards of community program implementation.
● Excellent written, analytical and research skills.
● Effective communication skills (written and oral).
● Strong interpersonal communication skills with initiative, good judgement, and ability to give and take direction.
● Demonstrated sound decision-making, organizational and time management skills.
● Highly self-motivated and detail oriented, proven self-starter.
● Able to prioritize workloads and meet established deadlines.
● Able to work independently and as part of a team.
● Ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively with other organizations and agencies.
● Experience or a proven track record of successfully securing grants for non-profit or Indigenous organizations.
● Experience working in, volunteering, or supporting Métis or Indigenous community programming.
● Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
